Latest News from Long Row Primary School
Thank you for attending parents' evening. It was lovely to see so many families and welcoming the PCSO into our school. We know the children really enjoyed showing you all the progress they have made in their books. Thank you for your support.
NSPCC Numbers Day update
The children took part in various numbers related activities on Friday. A pupil even came to school, dressed as a calculator! Our School Council also enjoyed decorating cakes. Thank you, in particular, to the councillors that stayed after school to sell them. £52 was raised for the NSPCC.
What a wicked night the children had! A super night walk, all children were settled by 11pm and woke bright and happy this morning.
We are having a fab time today on the high rope swing & skyline! See you back at 4.30pm for exciting tales to tell!
Kind Regards
The Year 6's & Long Row Staff
It has been wonderful to have Anish from the British Red Cross in Sycamore class this morning! They have received a workshop to learn about the experience of migration and reasons why people may have to leave home. The children focused on developing empathy, by putting themselves in the shoes of others and engaging in stories of migration. A really good link to our class story this term (The Boy at the Back of the Class, by Onjali Q. Raúf). The children were brilliant and asked lots of great questions.
A huge well done to the children in the Key Stage 2 Choir for all their wonderful festive singing last week. I am so proud of their commitment, enthusiasm and sharing of music both in school , and within the Belper community.
Also, thank you to the school staff who have supported the Choir this term.

The Years 5 & 6 children have had a wonderful time learning all about the history and significance of the Mill in Belper. They have learnt about the River Derwent and how it was used to power the Mill, the 1803 fire at the North Mill and how that prompted the design of a fireproof Mill, about the Victorian social order, about the working life of a Victorian child in the Mill and about how the Strutt family built so much of the town. Please see some of our wonderful photos attached!
Today we thought it would be a great experience for our children to see Vernon Kay on his Children in Need Ultra, Ultra, Marathon journey. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see Vernon as the route had slightly changed. As the children were a little disappointed, we want you to know that Pudsey Bear actually dropped in to see us. It was so exciting. We are adding some fabulous photos onto the website this afternoon.
Our year 1/2 pupils had a wonderful time during the Victorian School Day, on 17th October 2023.
Both Willow and Fir classes spent the day as Victorian children. Throughout the day, we were joined by volunteers from Belper North Mill, who led a Victorian School lesson. We were taught all about a Victorian family living on Long Row and brought in Victorian artefacts for us to handle and learn about. We also learned sewing and weaving skills, made peg dolls and played with old toys. Outside we cleaned our tyre chimney, built chimney stacks, shined shoes, scrubbed the steps and played traditional games such as hoops, hopscotch and marbles.
It was a great experience for everyone.
Thank you so much for your donations to Belper Food and Community Hub! On Monday morning the children had an assembly from Jo Lambourne, who volunteers at the foodbank, to find out more about what they do. In the afternoon, the year 5/6 children had a little walk over to the food bank, to take the donated items and help to organise them in the stores.
