Inspire, Respect, Belong

Mobile Planetarium

The Year 5/6s have had a fantastic morning with Dave Buttery learning all about the planets, solar system and moon missions. The planetarium shows were amazing – ask your child(ren) all about it when you see them. We have attached some photos and captured some of the things we learnt…

“Saturn’s rings are made up of little bits of rocks and ice, which are no bigger than a football.”

“Mercury and Venus are the only planets in our solar system without moons! Earth is the only planet with one moon.”

“Earth is the only known planet to have water on its surface and the only one to have life (as far as we know)”

“It takes the moon 27 and a half days (roughly) to orbit the Earth!”

“Small asteroids are around the size of Belper and big ones the size of Derbyshire! The biggest one recorded was the size of England.”

“Artemis I was launched in November 2022. Artemis II was delayed because of two unsuccessful attempts at getting the supplies onto the moon. NASA will now target September 2025 for Artemis II”

“Artemis III will be the first time people have landed on the moon since 1972. This mission hopes to include the first women to land on the moon! Artemis hopes to travel to Mars after.”

“Apollo was only built to last a few days on the moon, however they hope Artemis can land for weeks or months.”

“If you fall into a black hole, you would be spaghettified and become part of the black hole!

If someone saw you fall in, all they would see is your body you frozen in time.”
