Maple Stone Centre Visit

Trips and visits

  • Monday 2 November 2026
  • 9:30am – 2pm
  • National Stone Centre, Wirksworth, DE4 4LS

To start our science topic of rocks next half term, we have arranged a trip to the National Stone Centre in Wirksworth (DE4 4LS). The trip will entail a geo-trail looking at the quarry, fossil hunting, learning about the properties of rocks and minerals, stone wall building and gem panning- all linked to the science curriculum for lower Key Stage 2 and run by centre experts.

Maple class will visit on Monday 2nd November. Pine class will visit on Thursday 5th November.

To keep the cost down, we are asking parents to drop off and collect their children directly from the centre in Wirksworth. Lift sharing is encouraged. Please park in the car park (no parking charge for drop off and collection). Please bring your child to the centre between 9.30am and 9.45am and collect them at 2pm. If another adult will be collecting your child, please indicate this on the Microsoft form below.

The cost of this trip is £15.

Your child will need a packed lunch- no nuts/glass as usual please. If your child has free school meals,  we can provide a packed lunch for them. Please indicate on the form below if this is something your child will require, so our kitchen staff can prepare these and school staff can bring the lunch to the Stone Centre.

There will not be an opportunity for visiting the gift shop, but it will be open from 2pm if you wish to go there after collecting your child.

Children do not need to come back to school unless they attend an after school club.
