Latest News from Long Row Primary School
Our year 1/2 pupils had a wonderful time during the Victorian School Day, on 17th October 2023.
Both Willow and Fir classes spent the day as Victorian children. Throughout the day, we were joined by volunteers from Belper North Mill, who led a Victorian School lesson. We were taught all about a Victorian family living on Long Row and brought in Victorian artefacts for us to handle and learn about. We also learned sewing and weaving skills, made peg dolls and played with old toys. Outside we cleaned our tyre chimney, built chimney stacks, shined shoes, scrubbed the steps and played traditional games such as hoops, hopscotch and marbles.
It was a great experience for everyone.
Thank you so much for your donations to Belper Food and Community Hub! On Monday morning the children had an assembly from Jo Lambourne, who volunteers at the foodbank, to find out more about what they do. In the afternoon, the year 5/6 children had a little walk over to the food bank, to take the donated items and help to organise them in the stores.
A huge thank you to all who came to the wellbeing SMILERS event at school on Friday. The fantastic event was an opportunity to share SMILERS with our families. We would like to thank all our school partners:
Children have had a fun week meeting Walter the Wellbeing Owl and discussing their own ways of supporting their wellbeing. This whole school approach will support children and adults develop a common language on how we all can look after our wellbeing and mental health.
Yesterday our children enjoyed meeting Walter the Wellbeing Owl in our assemblies and finding out more about SMILERS. SMILERS is a new initiative in partnership with Derby and Derbyshire Emotional Health and Wellbeing. SMILERS gives children and adults a whole school approach to talk about wellbeing and how to look after our physical and emotional wellbeing.
Please join us on our playground on Friday 6th October from 2.45pm to find out more about SMILERS and meet our internal and external partners, including:
We look forward to seeing you.
