  • Book Fair 2022

    Thu 10 Feb 2022

We will have a book fair in school from the 1st March until the 3rd March. Due to hall space, numbers and COVD risks, children will be able to purchase books during school time only. Class teachers will supervise the children and take payment on the day they choose their book(s). If the book they would like is not in stock, we will take payment and put in an order on their behalf through school.

Timings for classes to visit the book fair are as follows:

    • Tuesday 1st March: Mrs Smurthwaite (EYFS), Mrs Jones (EYFS), Mrs Driscoll/Mrs Coope (Year 1) and Miss Davis (year 2)
    • Wednesday 2nd March: Mrs Hamlin (year 3/4), Mrs Z-B/Mrs Deegan (year 3/4) and Miss Hollett (Year 5)
    • Thursday 3rd: Mrs North (year 5/6) and Mrs Jenkins (year 6)

If you wish for your child to purchase a book from the book fair, please put money in an envelope with your child's name and class on the front and bring it to school in their bags on their allocated day.

  • Friday celebrations

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Our children have had a wonderful week, fully immersing themselves into our explore curriculum, learning new Geographical skills and knowledge through arts, music, storytelling and film.

Our youngest children have travelled all the way to Japan, Y1/2 down under to Australia, Y3/4 to the Amazon and Y5/6 journeyed west to North America. It’s no wonder we’re all so tired after our travels.

Today in our celebration assembly many children were recognised for their excellent geographical knowledge, learning and knowledge work.

Laci-Ann, Casey and Lola said, “We have had a different, exciting week. It’s definitely something we’d like to do again. It was fun to create structures including making the Northern Lights, Mount Rushmore, the White House, the wind and tornadoes in art.”

“I enjoyed making the culture – like the Statue of Liberty and New York City from Lego,” commented Albert.

“Our producer was really friendly helped and supported us; he encouraged me to try something different,” said Seb.

We are also very proud of our Y2 dodgeball team who came second out of ten teams in a competition at Belper Leisure Centre on Monday. Thank you to all for your excellent sportsmanship.

Huge congratulations to Quinn, who is the first of our mini leaders to compete the first 10 hours of the sports leadership course. All our Y5/6 leaders are making a huge difference on our playground.

    Wishing you a great weekend.

  • North America Miss Hollett's class

Fri 04 Feb 2022 Miss Hollett

This week we have been exploring North America! We have been learning about its physical and human features, the diverse climates and about the animals that live there.

We chose to represent our learning with a piece of art and using a range of materials, including: string, card, water colours, ink and pastels.

Take a look at the pictures attached and you will find our representation of the Toronto skyline, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, a Mexican Cactus, an Alaskan Totem Pole as well as pastel and water colours of the landscape and wildlife.

Rafi, ‘It was great fun making things.’

Hunter, ‘It was amazing seeing how it all looked together.’

Georgia, ‘It was fun and creative.’

Charlie, ‘I liked it because we got to choose what materials we used.’

    North America!

Year 5/6 have been extremely creative in representing their research of the climate, weather, biomes, population and human and physical features of North America. Each group was given the task of finding out all the information they could and then representing what they had found out in any way they wanted.

First, we moved all the tables and chairs to create space for North America in our classroom, then we had to outline the continent and borders with string, until finally, we were let loose to be creative! We have rivers made out of paper, mountains made of chairs and fabric, paintings, a Lego statue of Liberty, volcano pots, snow (lots of art straws used here!), the northern lights have been painted and a beautiful glittery fabric hung, the icy winds from the North and warm winds from the South have been strung up on clothes lines and formed a hurricane!

We will be adding an animal zoo and joining an indigenous tribe (Wednesday) and then we will be presenting our ideas to the class. 😊
