  REACH OUT! BE KIND! CELEBRATE DIVERSITY!

   

  What a wonderful start to our PSHE unit - Bullying Matters, celebrating difference with our odd socks last Monday as part of anti-bullying week. 

   

  As a school, we are always talking with the children about respect and positive behaviours and this week we have pieced our understanding together.

   

  Year 5/6 school council members delivered an assembly on our children's version of the anti-bullying policy. They explained: what bullying is and isn't, what it can look like, what to do if you are being bullied and how we can ensure we are a bully-free at school. 

   

  They explained:

   

  STOP = Several Times On Purpose. Bullying is intentional behaviour, which hurts someone else.

  Bullying is not falling out with a friend or having an argument. 

   

  Bullying can be physical, verbal, indirect (like gossiping or spreading rumours) or cyber bullying and can impact on your emotional health and well-being.

   

  Grace explained that bullying can happen in groups and people can be part of the bullying if they laugh or join in and if you see bullying and do nothing, you are a bystander. We should be defenders and always stand up for people who are being bullied.

   

  The message was clear: if you are being bullied, you need to talk to an adult in school, who can help straight away - ask your child who they could talk to at school.

   

  Jacob asked what we can all do to ensure there isn't any bullying. We all agreed to use kind words, have kind hands and feet, show respect at all times, check on people if they are lonely or sad and to invite people to join in our games.

   

  In class:

  Year 5 and 6 have looked at discrimination and prejudice and how people can be bullied due to their religion, gender, sexuality, race, culture, body image, fashion and more. The produced some key messages

   

  Year 3 and 4 looked at videos, discussed different types of bullying and made some wonderful posters.

   

  Reception, Year 1 and 2 learnt about STOP and trusted adults they could talk to in and out of school. They have done lots of work on kindness.

• Anti-bullying week and Children in Need

  Oak class revealed their odd socks on Monday to start Anti-Bullying Week to show that being different to others is to be celebrated. Today, they got spotty for Children in Need.

   

  To date we have raised £103.00 for Children in Need. THANK YOU!

  The payment items is still live on Parent pay for any last-minute donations :) 

   

  

• Maple Class - Beaker People

  Maple class have been enjoying using clay to create beakers.  These are based on the clay pots made by the Beaker People we have been studying in History.  We used coils of clay to build our bases (a bit like a snail) and then built up the sides.  We then smoothed the clay and used picks to make geometric patterns.
