Welcome to Nursery- We are the Magnificent Minnows!
Welcome back to Nursery! We hope that you had a happy and fun Christmas break and are ready to learn lots of new things and make new friends with our new starters! Our ongoing topic for the first half term is Winter and we will be finding out lots about the current season, by exploring weather changes outdoors and being creative with wintry themes indoors!
During the first few weeks, we will be revisiting our Nursery rules to ensure we are working and learning safely and effectively together. Our older children will also be helping us to introduce our new starters to our rules and expectations in Nursery- as well as help them to build new friendships!
Our topic work for the term is entitled " Go Wild!"
During this topic, we will be learning about lots of different animals from around the world, starting with animals from our country. We are very excited to be having a visit from the local 'Owl Experience' company, who will be bringing owls into school to meet us so we can watch them fly, hold them and learn all about how they live. Following the visit we will post some photos so that you can see what fun we had!
After this initial work on owls we will move on to learn about different animals from around the world, learning about the animals and the habitats they live in.
This Week in Nursery
Nursery is going to be very exciting this week- on Tuesday we have the owls coming for a fly around in the hall, we will be spending time in our mud kitchen exploring how to make changes to things around us and on Friday we will be visiting our book fair to listen to stories and looking at what books we may want to buy next week! (Letters regarding this will be given out this week!)
In phonics, we will begin to start looking at initial sounds- looking at what they look like, listening to what they sound like and sorting out objects that begin with that sound. We will also be finding out if our names contain any of the letters we are learning about. We will be starting with the letter 'S'
We will be sending home name practice sheets and cards, which you can use to help your child to learn the sounds in their name as well as how to write it.
In Little Big Maths, we will be learning about the concepts of near, far, hot and cold. We will learn about what these concepts mean and how to compare them. We are also working on counting 3 objects accurately, using familiar counting rhymes, such as 3 little monkeys, 3 little ducks, Goldilocks and the 3 bears.
In our circle time, we will be talking to the children about keeping ourselves healthy, concentrating mainly on using the toilet and washing our hands. During our circle times, we play games that build up each others' confidence, our speaking and listening skills and our understanding of taking turns. Our children have responded very well to our circle time rules and are demonstrating excellent listening and concentration during these tasks.
Just a little reminder of our donations pot- we ask for a donation of £1 a week for your child which can be put in our pot any morning. We ask for this donation to cover the cost of playdough ingredients, cooking activities and any other extra curricular activities that we do.
