Welcome to Nursery- We are the Magnificent Minnows!
This term our author of the term is Jill Murphy.
Jill is an author who has been around for many years- her stories "Whatever Next!" and "Peace At Last" are both firm favourites with teachers and young children alike. Her stories about The Large Family will make you laugh!
The first few weeks of Nursery are all about settling in- learning rules and routines, making friends and becoming confident to come in and have a go! We are working hard to make sure that your children are happy to come in every morning and we hope you are happy with how well they are settling in.
Our topic work for the term is entitled " All About Me!"
During this topic, we will be learning about our birthdays and how they are celebrated; talking about our families and what they mean to us; learning about where we live and places that are familiar to us around Belper.
This Week in Nursery
This week we will be learning all about birthdays- how they are celebrated, our birthdays that we have celebrated and when our birthdays are. We will be making playdough birthday cakes, learning birthday songs and role playing birthday parties in our home corner. We have also set up a display of the photos that you have sent in of your children celebrating birthdays at home- this will be a great talking point for our children, so thank you for sending these in to us!
In phonics, we will be going on a listening walk around school, to find out what sounds we can hear around us. We will be teaching our children how to use our listening ears- it would be great if you could encourage your child to do a sound walk around your home- what can you hear? Encourage your child to stop, be quiet and listen to what is around them. Let us know what you can hear! (Peace At Last is a fab story to introduce this activity!)
In our circle time, we will be talking about what makes us happy and how we feel when we are happy. We will also be learning the song "If You're Happy and You Know It" to sing when we are feeling happy! Talk to your child about what has made them happy each day- you could tell them what has made you feel happy too- it gives you a great boost!
Just a little reminder of our donations pot- we ask for a donation of £1 a week for your child which can be put in our pot any morning. We ask for this donation to cover the cost of playdough ingredients, cooking activities and any other extra curricular activities that we do, such as European day of languages, our Christmas party clown and class Christmas presents.
